Jewelry Insurance – Protecting Your Precious Pieces

Fine jewelry represents both financial and sentimental value. Bella Andrea & Co.™ strongly recommends arranging appropriate insurance promptly after receiving your piece.

Depending on your existing coverage, protection may be available through:

  • A scheduled jewelry endorsement added to a homeowners or renters policy
  • A separate personal-articles policy
  • A specialized jewelry insurance provider

Coverage, exclusions, deductibles, claim procedures, and replacement options vary considerably by insurer and policy.

Documents to Keep

Maintain copies of all applicable documentation, including:

  • Your sales invoice and proof of payment
  • Bella Andrea & Co.™ Certificate of Authenticity
  • GIA or IGI grading report
  • Detailed photographs of the finished piece
  • Any independent insurance appraisal
  • Report numbers, inscriptions, measurements, and metal specifications

Store digital copies separately from the jewelry itself.

Questions to Ask an Insurer

Before selecting coverage, ask whether the policy includes:

  • Accidental damage
  • Theft
  • Loss or unexplained disappearance
  • Worldwide or travel coverage
  • Repair or replacement with comparable quality
  • Coverage for the full documented replacement value
  • A deductible
  • Your choice of jeweler for repair or replacement
  • Requirements for updated appraisals

Specialized Providers

Clients may wish to compare coverage from their current homeowners or renters insurer with companies specializing in jewelry insurance, such as Jewelers Mutual, as well as other reputable providers available in their state. Jewelers Mutual currently states that coverage commonly costs around 1–2% of the insured jewelry’s value annually, although actual pricing depends on location, value, deductible, and other factors.

Appraisals and Updated Values

A grading report describes the diamond; it is not an insurance appraisal and does not establish the finished jewelry’s replacement value.

Your insurer may require an independent appraisal or other supporting documentation. Because precious-metal prices, diamond markets, craftsmanship costs, and replacement expenses change, clients should ask their insurer how often updated documentation is required.

Protect Your Piece

Documentation Matters

Keep your invoice, Bella Andrea & Co.™ Certificate of Authenticity, GIA or IGI grading report, appraisal, and clear photographs together in a secure digital file.

Review Your Coverage

Ask your insurer about theft, accidental damage, unexplained disappearance, worldwide coverage, deductibles, and whether you may choose your own jeweler for repair or replacement.

Update When Needed

Jewelry values and replacement costs can change over time. Ask your insurer how often updated appraisals or supporting documentation may be required.
